Developer WCI Properties plans to build an additional 300-400 new homes on 180 acres in the gated Pelican Preserve community in Fort Myers. WCI also promises adding new amenities for the 55+ community by the end of 2016 at this gated community which currently has 1,400 homes.
A second outdoor pool will be added to Pelican Preserve to accommodate new residents as well as two additional group fitness areas, outdoor dining, renovation of the current fitness areas and upgrades to the locker rooms in the Town Center. A neighborhood watch program will be implemented. Extra fencing will be increased to surround the development of the new area.
These decisions come on the heels of the Fort Myers City Council approving annexation of 180 acres into the city. Residents from the Pelican Preserve community located right off Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers attended the meeting, and urged adding amenities for new residents in the expansion proposal to prevent overcrowding of current facilities. WCI Properties, the real estate developers who own Pelican Preserve, wanted the city to annex 180 acres in order to build more homes in the 55+ community.
