For the first time, Barefoot Beach, one of Florida’s largest undeveloped barrier islands on Florida’s southwest coast, has been named to this year’s list of Top 10 beaches in the US.
Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs, Florida is a sprawling 342 acres of natural land. The south end is home to a preserve—Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park—containing many animal species where visitors can enjoy the park’s natural setting. The natural habitat houses seat turtles; sand dunes; gopher tortoise; estuaries where fresh and salt water meet; tropical coastal plants; tidal creeks and swamps; and many variety of fish species, popular for fishermen to enjoy. The Park Rangers offer a long list of activities and educational programs, including guided canoe trips to see turtles and wading birds.
